The Parks Department will soon be planting trees, and the following tree varieties are available. Please note that not all trees are suitable for every location. The appropriateness of each tree species is determined by factors such as the size of the planting site and the presence of overhead and underground utilities. Your choice of tree may be restricted by these conditions. Since quantities are limited and trees are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, it’s advisable to make your selection promptly to avoid disappointment.
Will You Be Charged?
-
If you live on a street where less than 50% of tree sites are occupied (as determined by our urban forestry plan), you will receive a tree at no charge.
-
If you live on a street where more than 50% of tree sites are occupied, you will be billed $50.
What About Costs?
- We procure trees through competitive bidding to minimize costs. The price you pay does not cover the full cost of the tree but represents a portion of its price to the city.
If you have received a mailing, only the trees listed therein are appropriate for the site conditions in front of your address. This website includes all the trees purchased for this planting cycle.
If you have not requested a tree to be planted but would like to be considered, please call the number below. Your site will be evaluated, and you will receive a list of available trees suitable for your site. For assistance in making a selection, additional information, requesting a planting inspection, or placing an order, please call: (716) 483-7523.
What to Expect:
Planting typically occurs while trees are dormant, usually in November, March, or April. The timing of your planting depends on:
-
Your choice of tree
-
Marking water and gas shutoffs and other utilities to avoid planting on them
-
Delivery of trees from the nursery
-
Weather conditions
City crews will mark the planting site with a stake and/or paint mark on the curb. The tree will be planted, watered, staked, and mulched.
Trees for sites with narrow planting zone, may have overhead utilities.
