Jamestown To Begin Offering Eco-Friendly “Bird” Scooters After Labor Day

September 1, 2023

JAMESTOWN, NY – September 1, 2023 – The City of Jamestown and Bird, a leader in electric micro-mobility, are teaming up to bring shared e-scooters to the city starting Tuesday, September 5th. Once launched, the eco-friendly transportation option can be activated through Bird’s free mobile phone application and used to replace car or walking trips when going to the store, meeting up with friends, exploring the community and taking many other daily trips.

“We are thrilled to welcome Bird to Jamestown and look forward to offering community members a new, eco-friendly, and fun way to get around. Whether going to our many great attractions down, taking a stroll along the riverfront, or running errands, residents and visitors will now have a new way to get from place to place in town,” said Eddie Sundquist, Jamestown mayor.

Sundquist also noted that anyone utilizing the scooters should park them out of the right of way when finished. Participants are encouraged to ride safely and complimentary helmets are available at the Department of Development offices.

Bird aims to make cities more livable by reducing car trips, traffic and carbon emissions. The company’s scooters also provide a reliable and convenient way to get around and offer residents without cars another transportation option. Senior citizens, U.S. veterans, and individuals participating in a state or federal assistance program are also eligible to receive 50% off Bird rides through community pricing.

Austin Marshburn, Senior Director, Government Partnerships at Bird, said: “We applaud the City of Jamestown for their commitment to offering convenient, environmentally friendly and reliable transportation options to residents and visitors.”
