Council, Fire Union Approve Two Year Agreement

February 22, 2021

PRESS RELEASE
Contact: Zach Altschuler, Executive Assistant to the Mayor

On February 22, 2021, the Jamestown City Council approved an agreement with the Jamestown Professional Firefighters Association, Local 137 for 2016 and 2017. The union approved the contract over the weekend.

The new contract includes retroactive 2% raises for firefighters for both years, as well as an increased contribution to the City’s health insurance plan by union members, retroactive to 2018.

Mayor Eddie Sundquist released the following statement on the deal, “I am excited to have worked out a deal with the union. I appreciate the hard work our City management team and union leadership have done to get to a fair contract for two years that the union was previously working without a current contract. I look forward to continue working with leadership on a contract that will bring the members onto a current contract.”

Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Coon said, “I am very happy that the administration and the members of JPFFA Local 137 have successfully negotiated a fair and equitable contract.  The Fire Department’s mission to deliver high-quality fire protection and emergency medical services to our residents is always our top priority.  I’m optimistic that further negotiations will yield a fair settlement for the other years of the agreement.”

JPFFA President Shawn Shilling said on the contract, “I am thrilled that our negotiation team has won hard-fought retroactive raises for our members. I appreciate that the City put forth a good faith effort to get a deal done. I hope that these positive relations can propel us forward to work towards a fair, current contract.”
