City of Jamestown Kicks Off 2024 Holiday Lights Contest

November 14, 2024

JAMESTOWN, NY – November 14, 2024 – The City of Jamestown is thrilled to kick off its 2024 Holiday Lights Contest, an opportunity for residents to showcase their holiday spirit and creativity. Sponsored by the City, Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, and Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, this contest invites city residents to decorate their homes and compete for a $100 ShopLocalCHQ gift card.

“Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union is excited to team up with the City of Jamestown and Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, and be a part of this fun community event! What a wonderful way to share the spirit of the holidays and recognize and appreciate those that really put their heart into their holiday decorating. I personally love driving around looking at all the lights and decorations, and I can’t wait to see the nominations!” said Kelly J. Haaksma, Chief Executive Officer of Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union.

“We are pleased to partner with Greater Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, and the city of Jamestown. Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union is happy to help support our community celebrate the holiday season,” added John Felton, Chief Executive Officer of Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union.

“This contest is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity and holiday spirit that make Jamestown a special place to call home,” said Mayor Kimberly Ecklund. “We are grateful to our partners at Greater Chautauqua and Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union for helping bring this event to life, and we look forward to seeing how our residents light up the city this holiday season.”

Participation & Judging

All Jamestown residents are encouraged to participate. To enter, submit a high-quality photo of your decorated home along with the address via email to lights@jamestownny.gov or by mail to City Hall, 200 East Third Street, Attn: Holiday Lights, Jamestown, NY 14701. Entry submission is open from November 24 to December 14, 2024.

After the submission period, a selection committee will choose the top three decorated homes in each of the city’s six wards. Voting will then be open to the community from December 15 to December 20, allowing residents to select the final winners.

Awards & Community Impact

One winner from each city ward will receive a $100 ShopLocalCHQ gift card, which can be redeemed at over 165 local businesses in Chautauqua County, supporting local shops and the community.

Important Guidelines

The City encourages safe decorating practices, ensuring displays can withstand winter conditions. Judging criteria include creativity, originality, and visual impact. Winners will be announced on December 23 via the City’s website and social media.
