City of Jamestown Announces Appointment of New Police Chief

April 6, 2026

JAMESTOWN, NY – April 2, 2026 – The City of Jamestown is proud to announce the permanent appointment of Scott Forster as Chief of Police for the Jamestown Police Department.

Chief Forster brings 16 years of dedicated service to the Jamestown Police Department (JPD). He was originally hired as a Police Officer on May 13, 2010, and has steadily risen through the ranks throughout his distinguished career: Sergeant (October 18, 2016), Lieutenant (February 25, 2019), Captain (January 19, 2021), and Deputy Chief (June 26, 2025), prior to his appointment as Chief.

Throughout his career, Chief Forster has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety, leadership, and community engagement. His experience across multiple ranks has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of departmental operations, officer development, and the evolving needs of the community.

In addition to his leadership roles, Chief Forster served as a member of the JPD SWAT Team for nine years, including time as a Team Leader, where he played a critical role in high-risk operations and tactical response. He was also a dedicated member of the Honor Guard for thirteen years, representing the department at ceremonial events and honoring fellow officers with professionalism and respect.

Chief Forster’s extensive experience, proven leadership, and deep institutional knowledge position him well to guide the Jamestown Police Department forward. As Chief, he is committed to strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community, supporting the men and women of the department, and continuing to enhance public safety efforts throughout the City of Jamestown.

“Chief Forster has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication, and a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of our community throughout his career,” said Mayor Kim Ecklund. “His experience, integrity, and vision make him the right person to lead the Jamestown Police Department forward. I am confident he will continue to serve our residents with professionalism and pride.”

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Chief Forster is deeply rooted in the community he serves. He resides in Jamestown with his wife and children and takes great pride in serving the city he calls home.

The City of Jamestown congratulates Chief Forster on this well-deserved appointment and looks forward to his continued service, leadership, and dedication to the community.
