City Announces Retirement of Police Chief & Director of Public Safety

JAMESTOWN, NY – The City of Jamestown announces the retirement of Police Chief and Director of Public Safety, Timothy Jackson, who will conclude more than 25 years of dedicated service to the Jamestown Police Department on February 4, 2026.

Chief Jackson began his career with the Jamestown Police Department on May 1, 2000, when he was appointed to the position of Patrolman. Over the course of his distinguished career, he advanced through the ranks, earning appointments as Sergeant on January 8, 2008, Lieutenant on August 9, 2010, and ultimately Chief of Police and Director of Public Safety on November 30, 2020.

Throughout his tenure, Chief Jackson served the City of Jamestown with integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to public safety. Prior to becoming Chief, he made significant contributions to the Kendall Club, where he served as President, and distinguished himself as an exceptional member of the SWAT Team, attaining the roles of SWAT Team Leader and SWAT Team Commander. He also served on the Honor Guard and Awards Committee, reflecting his respect for tradition and recognition of excellence within the department.

As Director of Public Safety, Chief Jackson was known for his tireless work ethic and deep devotion to his employees. He led with humility and by example, earning the respect of officers and staff alike. His dedication to the Jamestown community extended beyond his official duties, as he devoted countless hours to worthy causes and community-focused initiatives.

“Chief Jackson dedicated his life to serving this community with integrity, humility, and compassion. His leadership strengthened the Jamestown Police Department and built trust throughout our city. We are deeply grateful for his years of service and wish him a well-earned and fulfilling retirement,” said Mayor Ecklund.

Chief Jackson will be remembered for his guidance, loyalty, honesty, and vast knowledge of law enforcement. His leadership and steady presence have left a lasting impact on the Jamestown Police Department and the community he faithfully served and protected.

The City of Jamestown extends its sincere gratitude to Chief Jackson for his outstanding service and leadership, and wishes him a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement.
