Urban Forestry Fund

CRCF-Logo

The Chautauqua Region Community Foundation is the home of the Urban Forestry Fund. Established in 1992, this special endowment provides money each year for the purchase of trees to be planted along the streets and in the parks of Jamestown. Since the fund began to provide grants for this purpose it has grown in size to a current market value of nearly $12,000. Grants from the Urban Forestry Fund to the Parks Department to purchase trees now total over $3000.

Trees are a vital part of the quality of our community life. They are a living symbol of the health and vigor of our city. The act of planting a tree is one of faith, of optimism, and of commitment to the future.

The City Of Jamestown has implemented a comprehensive tree care plan. It identifies thousands of trees and their maintenance needs. But it also identifies thousands of empty sites where new tree could be planted, the tree that will be the urban forest of the future.

The opportunity to be part of the effort to ensure that the Jamestown of the 21st century is grace by a healthy urban forest is now yours through this program.

Your contribution to the Urban Forestry Fund will be combined with the gifts of others and invested by the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation. The income from this fund will create a perpetual support for tree planting efforts on the streets and in the parks of Jamestown. The nature of this fund will allow your gift to give again and again toward making a greener and more beautiful city.

Donations to the fund are accepted in any amount. A beautiful display in the lobby of City Hall acknowledges contributions at various levels above $30 and provides an opportunity to create a memorial or to honor a special person or occasion. Anyone interested in this program can pick up a brochure by the display in the lobby of city hall, contact the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation or call the Parks Department at 483-7547.

Contributions will be acknowledged in three ways:

  • A gift of $30.00 will receive an engraved tag on the “Friends of the Forest” honor roll.
  • A gift of $125.00 will receive a large gold leaf engraved as you choose. A smaller leaf is available at $75.00 to provide a special opportunity for civic associations, youth groups, school organization, etc., with limited means to add a leaf to the growing tree.
  • A gift above $500.00 will be honored with an engraved patron’s tablet near the tree.
